Meet Associate Professor Wendy James BBusAcc (Hons) PhD CMA CPA CA
Dr Wendy James is an academic in the accounting and business field with over 25 years experience. Dr James has taught many talented accountants and business people during her time at multiple Australian and international universities.
Associate Professor Wendy James is a fully Certified Management Accountant (CMA), a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Australia and New Zealand (ICAANZ) as well as a member of the International Association for Accounting Education and Research (IAAER). She is the National Deputy Head of the Peter Faber Business School at the Australian Catholic University. Prior to taking on this role Dr James was the National Discipline Head for the Accounting, Finance and Economics disciplines and course coordinator for the Bachelor of Commerce, the Bachelor of Accounting and Finance and the Bachelor of Information Technology She has also developed a Massive Open Online Course in Accounting, (see http://www.cdu.edu.au/moocs/accounting). Dr James has a wealth of experience in teaching a number of financial and managerial accounting courses as well as Information Systems and has taught at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at a number of universities in Australia and overseas, including spending five years as associate professor in accounting in Dubai. She has also spent time working in industry training financial accountants. Prior to teaching Dr James was involved in a number of management positions both in industry and the public sector. In her early academic career, Wendy was awarded the Women’s Academic Achievement Award which enabled her to further her interest in research. Dr James’s current research interests include: performance management, budgeting, pricing/costing, strategic management accounting and administrative and accountability structures and control systems in the private, public and not for profit sectors. She is also interested in exploring cultural, power and political issues, and how these aspects affect control systems. Dr James has a number of published articles in prominent accounting journals to which she also referees up and coming research articles by other authors. She is the accounting Head of Discipline and currently works as an online course developer and lecturer.
